Consider These 4 Things When Selecting a Web Host

The value of a high quality, professional, experienced and responsive web host cannot be overstated! If you think that’s a “bit dramatic,” just ask anyone who’s had the unfortunate experience of choosing the wrong web host. Not good! Consider the following 4 factors when selecting a new web host:
1. Monthly cost, and discounts for purchasing year-over-year. Although not always true, $9.95 per month web hosting is often “different” from $1.99 per month web hosting.
2. How long has the web host been in business? The longer, often the better.
3. What technical features come with the plan that interests you? Most web hosts offer many of the “same or similar” features in their basic and mid-range web hosting plans, however, that’s not always true! Always double-check features to ensure you are getting exactly what you need.
4. Customer service & web hosting client support! This is critical. Some web hosts are truly “customer-centric,” others are often “pretenders to the throne,” and in the end, the customer (you) loses. Look for strong customer support indicators!

With literally 1000s of web hosting options and choices available to website owners today, how does one choose? That may not be as easy as it sounds.
Any search for “web hosting” on any major search engine will return millions and millions of results! I’ve been “researching” reliable and high “feature to price ratio” hosts for several years; mostly in an effort to ensure my own websites are well looked after, but also out of curiousity.
In the end, I use 3 web hosting companies to host my various sites, and to date, I’ve been very satisfied! One web host I discovered recently may become my 4th! It appears to have all of the significant elements I look for in a web hosting company, including strong “feature to price ratio!”

What are domain names?

This might seem like a “silly question.” Afterall, domain names have been around for a couple of decades now! Who could have predicted that “converting” a technical number (IP address) to a “more memorable and market-able” easy to remember “domain name” would create a multi-billion industry in a relatively few short years!
And, what an industry it is! You really would be shocked just to have a “glimpse” on the inside of what goes on in the “domaining” business. I’ve been “in it” myself for about 8 years (the last 5 really), and I’m shocked daily at the complexity and depth of something that basically costs about $10 to own for a whole year! It really is a bit “mind-blowing.”
P.S. I haven’t made my millions yet and retired to a very warm and sunny place; but then again “domaining” is more of a hobby and “gas money” thing for me. Of course, if I hit the big one with a domain name deal someday, I’ll let you know right away!

I’m writing a quick post to save some “bookmark space” on my browser. This post is about “social websites” like Twitter, Ning (a new one), Google Wave (coming soon) Facebook (of course), MySpace, Squidoo and LinkedIn, among many, many others!
I personally use a few – Twitter, Squidoo and LinkedIn. There is definite “viral power” in these networks, and the technology is truly amazing! For now, I’ll take it a bit slow (Slow and steady wins the race?), and we’ll see where things go. Now, get out there and start “tweeting” or something!!
