Keyword Importance for SEO

// January 3rd, 2010 // No Comments » // All Business

Good Keywords, Good SEO? Most “SEOists” would say, “yeah, it helps to have and use good keywords to be successful online.” Which keywords, and where and how to use them? Well, that’s always up for debate! A good keyword domain is helpful, as is an appropriate use of relevant keywords throughout your website. Some solid “back links” with helpful anchor text, and a little tweaking now and then to ensure currency, and you’re on your way!

Of course, it’s a bit more complex than that, but “good keywords are a good start.” Understanding them is important, and it can be tedious work. I’m currently working on one of my keyword sites – www.mattressknowledge.com The best descriptive anchor (keyword) text for this site is Mattress Information Website. Wish me luck, or better yet > success!

Keyword Domain Names – GOOD IDEA?

// December 23rd, 2009 // No Comments » // All Business

Are “keyword domain names” a good investment? I say yes! There’s just something about a generic keyword domain that “oozes” logic, potential type-in traffic and begs for development.

I’ve seen some beauties over the years; I even have a few myself. A few that I like, that I don’t own > www.seobook.com , www.searchenginewatch.com , www.communitycollege.com & www.canadianwebhosting.com. A few I like, that I do own > Student Loan Application , Student Union Directory & Halifax Law Firm! Were those good investments? Time will tell, but so far, YES!

Merry Christmas!

Personal Injury Lawyers in Atlantic Canada

// October 31st, 2009 // No Comments » // All Business

I was doing some search engine “keyword research” for a friend recently. He was interested in finding out how search engines rank websites and specifically how his personal injury law firm ranked for related legal keywords. I assured him that only a “handful of people” really understand how search engines “do what they do” and they likely worked for one of the “big three search engines.” I talked to him about ethical SEO, relevant link building strategies and the importance of “real, honest website content.”

He’s a quick study, but he still wanted to know how well his Moncton Law Firm was doing in the online “personal injury” related keyword space. His firm, www.cantini.com is a full-service personal injury law firm serving all of Atlantic Canada from offices in Moncton, New Brunswick, Halifax, Nova Scotia & PEI, Canada. As it turns out, the Cantini Law Group ranks well for some competitive legal keywords including: Halifax Personal Injury Lawyers, Nova Scotia Law Firm, New Brunswick Personal Injury
Law Firm
and Moncton Law Firm, to name a few. The Cantini Law Group can be found online at www.cantini.com.

Who is HostMonster.com (Web Hosting)

// September 27th, 2009 // No Comments » // All Business

The following comments are personal observations only. They are not intended to either endorse, or discount www.hostmonster.com as a web host or domain name registrar. It should also be noted that numbers, special offers and features may change from time-to-time.

HostMonster.com web hosting has been hosting websites since 1996. They now host over 600,000 domains worldwide. They are headquartered in Provo, Utah and offer web hosting starting at only $6.95 per month. HostMonster does not charge a set-up fee and does not have any hidden fees or charges; and the $6.95 per month plan includes a full-year domain name registration.

One very appealing HostMonster feature is a service called “SimpleScripts” that allows you to install over 50 scripts on your website with just one click. This is very handy for people who need to get features /services set-up on their website in a hurry. HostMonster also offers a free website builder with a variety of free web templates.

One very important thing that webmasters are told to consider when choosing a web host is uptime. A 99.8% or better uptime is something webmasters strive for. HostMonster offers a 99.9% uptime
guarantee. There are many web hosts that offer a 99.9% uptime guarantee, so that’s not totally unique, but it is important to know.

If you would like to try some pay-per-click (PPC) website advertising, HostMonster offers new web hosting clients $25.00 in free Yahoo ad credits and $50.00 in free Google ad credits. This feature alone is worth approximately six months of HostMonster web hosting. HostMonster.com appears to be a popular and feature-rich web host. The price is right. You can have unlimited sub-domains and unlimited monthly bandwidth according to their website. HostMonster.com also has a demo login and a toll-free phone number that you can call with any pre-sale questions.

HostMonster.com is a large web hosting company by any definition! Sometimes large is good, sometimes large is slow and bureaucratic. You will have to make the final decision for yourself.

Please note: This is just a simple web host review. It is not a testimonial, and is not meant to be either in favour of HostMonster.com, or not when deciding whether to host your website at HostMonster.com. You are advised to review their website and seek out in-depth online reviews before you make a final, and very important web hosting choice.

Consider These 4 Things When Selecting a Web Host

// September 6th, 2009 // No Comments » // All Business

The value of a high quality, professional, experienced and responsive web host cannot be overstated! If you think that’s a “bit dramatic,” just ask anyone who’s had the unfortunate experience of choosing the wrong web host. Not good! Consider the following 4 factors when selecting a new web host:

1. Monthly cost, and discounts for purchasing year-over-year. Although not always true, $9.95 per month web hosting is often “different” from $1.99 per month web hosting.

2. How long has the web host been in business? The longer, often the better.

3. What technical features come with the plan that interests you? Most web hosts offer many of the “same or similar” features in their basic and mid-range web hosting plans, however, that’s not always true! Always double-check features to ensure you are getting exactly what you need.

4. Customer service & web hosting client support! This is critical. Some web hosts are truly “customer-centric,” others are often “pretenders to the throne,” and in the end, the customer (you) loses. Look for strong customer support indicators!
