Check this out! The Maritime Centre for African Dance (MCAD) is dedicated to teaching, sharing and promoting African Culture though the art of dance, to youth and adults across Nova Scotia and Canada. To date, MCAD has taught well over 20,000 children and adults in schools, community centres, camps and programs. This number is ever increasing. This organization was formed out of a necessity for lack of cultural representation in the form of traditional dance in Nova Scotia. It is a collective of different individuals from Africa who have are trained in traditional dance and ranges from the South, North, West and East of Africa. Our most famous appearance was at President Obama’s Inaugural Ball!

MCAD hosts “The Dance-Off”, a freestyle dance competition created for Canadians ages 4 and up who have a love and desire to showcase their dance creativity. The Dance-Off was created, in part, from the outpour of requests from freestyle dancers who feel that there were no such outlets in Atlantic, Canada.
